The year 2020 is still new and fresh, and it occurs to me how full of energy NEW always seems to be.

Already I have been meeting new artists and discussing their new expo’s for midnightin.amsterdam. I am very happy to see that together with these amazing artists, midnightin.amsterdam is growing fast as a wonderful platform.

It’s a new kind of gallery where you don’t have to enter a big, silent room, and immediately think about what you look like with the Amsterdam rain on your hair. Nothing like that, this art window is a chance for everybody to walk by, see new expo’s every month and experience something that makes you wonder.

Last week we held a flash opening for the expo of Frederick Calmes, and it was exciting to meet kind, new people who all have a big warm heart when it comes to art.

So, don’t forget to drop by the art window once in a while and find what something NEW can do for you.

See you again soon.

I should be blogging about all the beautiful stuff I saw, all the wonders in the world in Amsterdam, the art expo’s, the get-togethers, the fun new initiatives.

I could go on for hours.

The problem is I didn’t go anywhere. I wanted to, but time was limited in November and I have some Loved Ones at Numero Uno on my list.

So – I missed the opening of the pop art expo at  Galerie Fleur and Wouter. What a shame. A great opportunity to meet Marijke Helwegen and I didn’t.

Then there was Come & Meet the Icons, a solo exhibition by Tadej @popartbytadej during the ADE weekend in Amsterdam. It was about music and DJ’s, ravers and artlovers, and I think there was a lottalotta music and I did not go! But do not forget I am in my 50’s and it could have been a little awkward to have been dancing around.

Number 3: Opening of the expo Curiosity killed the Cat by Sasa Ostoja @sasa_ostoja in De Bouwput, building great visual colourful worlds. I didn’t go.

The good thing is that instead of visiting these openings, I had the chance to spend a week in the south of France, and also meet more with my friends – fantastic warm & wise women.

And then of course there is family too.

I was missing things, but not the real important things. In the spirit of December I guess that is what Life is  all about.

Have a great happy month, and see you again in January.

Dear lovers of art and Amsterdam,

Time to introduce myself.

I am Dutch-Indonesian, born and raised in Amsterdam Noord. I have my roots in the fashion industry, then sold my company, worked a lot with creative people and since some years I am working at the University of Amsterdam. So much for fashion and science,  but I always felt a warm place for art in my heart.

Isn’t it true that looking at a piece of art can give you the same kind of feeling as falling in love?

So when I started the Art Window midnightin.amsterdam, my heart opened up. I had the fantastic opportunity to meet wonderful artists, living or working in Amsterdam, and through some fine collabs midnightin.amsterdam had beautiful expo’s throughout the years. It is a cute little art window, a gallery in the lively De Pijp neighbourhood where many locals and tourists meet.

I truely believe that art should be for everyone, and midnightin.amsterdam shows you that this is possible.

So stroll by, have a look at all kinds of art in the window, and sense what a piece of beauty does to you by looking at it.

I will regularly blog about interesting stuff in Amsterdam like local art news, but also about the life as a local in De Pijp – anything that is GOOD food for thought.

See you soon!

Love, x Donna
